2-week-old woke up with nosebleed

Before I freak out, I want to find out from others if this is "normal"? My 2-week-old woke up not too long ago with dried blood coming out of one nostril, and some blood (not much) on his jammies. Trying to think what this could be from? He's very spitty and spits up a lot after nursing (comes out of his mouth and nose, sometimes very forcefully), could this be it? Or that our house is very dry (my 23-month-old had a similiar nosebleed a few months ago)? I'm hoping it's something simple. He seems fine and even smiled at me :) Can someone calm me down? Thanks!

I don't know if that's normal or not.  My DS has had a slightly bloody nose once when the weather was very dry and he had a cold.  In a baby that little, I'd call the doctor's office and ask.

I'd be calling the dr with a baby so young.

is it possible he has scratched himself? And has the weather been dry or really cold recently? A humidifier can help then. I always have nosebleeds when I visit my parents in Colorado.

I'd call the doc concerning the nosebleed and then get a humidifier going for your whole family. It makes such a difference.

In an older baby or toddler, I wouldn't worry about it. Nosebleeds are fairly common events in the winter, when the air is dry in the house, especially with children too young to control the urge to scratch and pick. A humidifier can really help, as can a squirt of sterile saline in the nose at bedtime. But with such a tiny baby, I think I'd be calling in for some medical advice, just in case. Probably it's just the dryness, or maybe baby was scratching-- does he wear mitts, or sleep swaddled, to keep his hands contained?-- but I'd want to check in with somebody.

Thank you so much ladies! Well it hasn't happened again. I called my ped and she didn't seem worried- she also said use a humidifier and nasal dropper but that if it keeps happening to bring him in (it hasn't, thank goodness!).
