Fat Baby came down with pneumonia earlier this week and was put on Zithromax, which is helping the pneumonia but now he's got a yeasty rash on his butt. I'm putting Monistat on it, but is there anything else I can/should do? We haven't started him on solids yet, but should I maybe pick up some yogurt and see if he'll eat it? He's still breast-fed, would it help if I started taking a probiotic? Any suggestions? It's not bothering him yet but I don't want it to get worse.

Zithromax, unfortunately, does do a wonderful job of wiping out the beneficial bacteria and encourage yeast. My DD2 had it as part of her treatment for pneumonia last winter, and she wound up with a NASTY yeast rash.
It probably won't clear up until the antibiotic is finished. I don't know that I'd worry about taking a probiotic yourself-- it's going to settle in your own gut, and not make it to baby's gut. But baby might benefit from a probiotic-- there are several ones created for children. DD2 was given children's culturelle. I don't know the recommendation for infants, though. But a quick Google should answer that question.
A good topical anti-fungal is going to be your friend-- but you can't expect to see a lot of improvement until a few days or a week after the antibiotic is stopped in my experience.
You don't say how old he is-- if he's six or seven months old, at least, I think I'd try plain yogurt if he'll eat it. I don't think I would for a younger baby. The live elements in breastmilk should do a nice job of re-culturing baby's gut, once the antibiotic is finished.

He's 6 months yesterday (just changed my siggy, you're not seeing things :). I'll give the yogurt a shot, otherwise we'll just wait it out. That's kinda what I was expecting but figured I'd ask anyway, don't want the poor kid suffering any more than he has to. Hopefully the Monistat will keep manageable. Thanks!
