toddler rubbing his face against rails

Hello and a kind thank you for spending some time reading this,

My son is about to turn 3 yo in a week!

he is a charming clever healthy happy chap ,he started liking the company of other children about a month ago and frankly speaking i dont see any problem with his development (oh i forgot to add that he is a trilingual! how silly of me - and he started talking about 4 months ago he was saying lots of words beforehand but only during the last 4 months he really got into forming sentences and building his own funny expressions etc)

the thing about my boy is that he have got this strange urge whenever he comes across rails - he just have to rub his cheeks against it,somtimes he will do the same with fences and walls,he also rubes toys against his cheek and smelling them after word and then asking for the toys name ?! is that a toddlerish method of sorting toys by smell?

,i was wondering if this sort of behavior is familiar to any of you ? should i worry ,i wasn't giving much thought to this since i thought its his way of sensing textures ?

I would appreciate any help

Bump.  Oh, my.  I am sorry you haven't got any answers yet.

DD does this but I don't think to the extent as your DS does.  She has on occasion rubbed her cheeks on rails and other things.  It has reminded us of how a cat would do this sort of behavior.  We will say, "oh, she is being a cat now."  This does not happen a lot.  Not even once a week.  Enough, for us to remark that it is just something she likes to do.  Sometimes we can predict that a certain rail will entice her.  It happens most at the mall.  They once put up some fake bows of holly on them around the holidays and she was all about that.  She loved the feeling of that faux evergreen on her face.

You might have more luck looking into SPD over at the special needs forum.  But, it sounds within the realm of normal toddler weirdness to me.

i tend to believe this might have to do with the fact he is quite trainoholic i mean the boy is completely and as a whole obsessed with this long trucky boring vehicle ,sometimes i wonder if this could happen because he imagine trains wherever there are rails? i remember i had some obsessions as a child (especially after watching wash.gifcartoons)and so i had this imaginary friend and so i wonder if in my sons case it could be well.. an imaginary train?!shake.gif
