How are you going to differentiate the responses by socioeconomic class? What markers are you using to determine class?

Are you more interested in the sociological concepts of culture and stress as it is viewed either by mothers or by those around a mother? Or are you interested in looking at what particular elements of every day life are stressful for mothers and how that impacts their parenting choices? Historical data on mothering and stress?

I would think that you would need to narrow down your focus to more specific concepts and questions in order to find any sort of qualitative or experiential data here. If you have specific polls/questions you may end up finding some data in a forum like this.

It seems like you have answered your own semi-vague question in that you are implying that mothers feel stress because they feel under appreciated. I would venture to guess that there are many other reasons that mothers feel stress, and I wonder if you're looking for some other focus or direction for your project since you mention something about SES being a factor.  Why don't you look into Maslow's hierarchy and see if the concept rings any bells or sparks any focus for your project.

(sorry if I sound rough or disrespectful, I'm avoiding my dissertation through the use of some pretty heavy distraction techniques! :)  I could probably sketch out a thousand dissertation topics out of your one post alone... which doesn't help me write mine at all!)
