How Soon after BC?

I am currently on birth control but about to stop. My OB/GYN told me it could take three months to even get a regular period yet alone get pregnant. Does anyone have any experience in this area? Just wondering what to expect and when to start taking vitamins etc.

You should start taking vitamins right away if you are TTC right now.  Health Canada (I'm CDN) says to start 6 months before TTC.  My doctor said 3 months.  Nobody really knows how long it will take to get pregnant after being on BC pill.  Some doctors advise waiting until you get your first period to start trying (they like to know so they can determine when the due date is).  You could get pregnant right after you stop taking the pill.  You might not.  It depends on when your body starts ovulating.  I've heard that it takes a while for the hormones to get out of your system.  But I've also heard that they're out the first pill you don't take (which is why they advise using extra birth control after the second pill "forgotten").  In other words, it depends on your body.  When I stopped taking birth control, I immediately felt sick (nauseated), headache, lower abdominal discomfort and felt discomfort (varying levels) for a few weeks after.  Some women get this, some don't (I did research because I didn't know what was going on).

I've got a whole slew of vitamins. I've been taking a multi (which has folate) and a vitamin D in it but I want to up my folate m folate intake since I know there are some studies that indicate you need a bit more than what is in the multi's. I'm also going to start on OMega 3's.

Here's t hoping I don't feel too bloated post pill. I remember when I first started it I was very prone to mood swings. I would suddenly get FURIOUS at very silly things.

I got pregnant while actually on the pill with my first (had missed a couple the month before). I had my hormonal IUD out 45 days ago and I'm still on the first cycle, so I have a feeling it's going to take a while for my cycles to get "normal" again. IUD and pills are different, but both are hormones so they may be similar. As far as I know it's a wide range. Some women get pregnant 3 weeks later, some it takes 6 months to go back to normal.

I stopped the pill last October, and have yet to have a normal cycle. Having said that, we really started trying this month, so I've learned to chart, etc. I really think that this MIGHT be my first normal cycle. I'm either waiting to find out I'm PG next week, or waiting for AF to show up. Given the stupid cycle issues for the past SIX months, I'll be just as happy to AF this time. After that, I expect to see a BFP!

I also started taking vitamins a couple weeks ago. I'm currently taking:

One a Day Women's Multi

Folic

Fish Oil

D3

Pre Natal

Any advice on others is appreciated!!

It took me 7 months to get a period, and almost a year to get a regular (ovulatory) cycle.  My friend got off and was pregnant that same cycle, so I think it depends.

Good luck!

I'm in my early twenties so maybe this makes a difference- but I got pregnant the month after I stopped taking the pill!
