Featuring none other than Paul Offit.
"The Dangers of the Antivaccine Movement"
Quote:
Childhood inoculations protect us against deadly infectious diseases like measles, whooping cough and polio. But they are also the source of near constant conflict — most recently in the Feb. 22 Supreme Court decision that ruled in favor of a vaccine manufacturer over the family of a disabled girl. In recent years, some parents, influenced by fringe activists who believe vaccinations cause autism, brain damage and other ailments, have begun to refuse them for their children. Dr. Paul Offit, chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and the director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, has seen the consequences: preventable childhood deaths, community outbreaks of outdated diseases and misinformed, angry parents. In a conversation with TIME and in his recent book, Deadly Choices: How the Anti-Vaccine Movement Threatens Us All, Offit describes the origins of our squeamishness with inoculation and why we should fight against it.

sigh...is there really anything to say except that we are fighting an uphill battle every single day.

DH saw a thing on our local news about a measles outbreak and freaked out saying if DD got measles and died it would be on my head...

He wants her vaxed now.

I tried to tell him that measles generally (or mostly) doesn't kill you assuming you are healthy to begin and everyone used to get it like the chicken pox...

It is never going to get easier I think and I cannot stand Paul Offit, can anyone say out to make a buck.

These articles always downplay vaccine reactions. Yes, VPD's are terrible, but so are the adverse vaccine reactions! Why do these stupid "news" articles try to make us seem irrational for not vaccinating? The threat of adverse reactions is very real, and not as rare as the media would have us believe. (The news media is a complete joke!)

Why are we not allowed to be afraid of both diseases AND vax reactions?

Cause that would be bad for the bottom line. No fear of reactions can be allowed to exist.
