Infant acne or something else?

DS (almost 7 weeks old) has a terrible rash which I first thought was just common infant acne.  It started about a week ago but seems to be getting worse, its not only all over his face but also on the sides of his head, his ears, his chest and neck.  Some are whiteheads but most are just small red bumps.  If you run your finger down his cheek you can even feel lots of tiny bumps that can't really be seen.

I've been reading about infant acne and I'm starting to wonder if this might be something else given the time it started and how severe it seems to be.

My DS1 had this pretty bad when he was a newby.  I remember I worried about it some, but the MD assured me it was nothing, and sure enough, it eventually cleared up, although would recur periodically.  I noticed it again when he started teething, especially.  It's probably nothing, as long as baby doesn't seem to mind (isn't particularly fussy or sensitive to touch, etc.).  I used some creams from time to time, though I don't know that they helped him as much as made me feel like a better mom, ykwim.  I love Burt's Bees (without menthol), and Gold Bond, but make sure whatever you use you test first on a small patch of skin overnight to be sure you don't irritate baby's sensitive skin or make the rash worse.  I wouldn't worry too much, momma.  :)
