Matress protector: wool or pul?

I need something on my sons bed to prevent washing his mattress protector all the time. The protector I have isn't waterproof despite it's claims. I want to keep it on the bed topped with a sheet & a second smaller protector that can easily be changed & washed on the nights that he soaks through his cover or the nights that I forget to put a cover on him.

I can't decide between a pul protector with cotton & fleece top or a wool puddle pad.

Any opinions???

I like wool because it can be aired rather than needing washed every time. But the pul would likely hold more

I have a wool protector, and I put a large receiving blanket over it.

It does the job unless there's a total diaper failure - if it's a small leak or compression leak it handles it no problem and is dry by next bedtime. If it's an issue of the diaper not absorbing and pee running out the side (I've had this problem on occasion with both CD and disposables) the wool cover usually handled it but once wasn't up to the job. But I still prefer the wool simply because it's breathable.

I have two wool puddle pads that I have been using with my babies for 12 years.  They work really well, and I like that they breathe.  They haven't failed yet, although there have been a couple of times where I've had to thoroughly air them (mostly after potty-trained little ones had an accident, so they were in underwear, not a diaper).  They have been a good investment for our family.

I got a cheap piece of wool coating from a discount fabric store, and washed it in the washing machine with Eucalan.  Think it cost $25 for a piece big enough for my double bed

Even when he peed on the bed during a diaper change, nothing made it to the mattress.  It's also kept some momma leaks back (the blood ends up on the sheet only, the wool doesn't even collect it).

PUL gets uncomfortable since it does not breathe, IMO.
