I have a question for y'all...do you go swimming? How if so? My church frowns upon any kind of swimsuits or women swimming in public/mixed company in general and I am pretty uncomfortable being seen in anything too tight or revealing. With my kids I'd have to be in and out of the water all the time though if we take them swimming and it's not fair never to let my little boys in a pool. My husband can't watch them alone he doesn't have the safety instincts I do and takes big risks of them drowning. I do have a one piece swimsuit and a little swim skirt thing but pretty much my whole shape and most of my bare legs show, might as well be naked, ugh.
I bought a swimsuit from http://modestlyyoursswimwear.com/ . They have a lot of options (looser fit, more or less sleeves, etc). I really like it and feel quite modest. The "shorts" cover my knees and I have and I had the skirt lengthened to be almost as long.

"I am in dresses or skirts 99% of the time...aside from hiking and bike riding. Â As soon as I can find the money or a good deal at the thrift store, I'm going to buy a few "active" skirts...like from Patagonia or North Face. Â I live in CO, so I do a LOT of outside stuff. " Â From Nicoleand co. (sorry, quote function isn't working!)
Â
We're also active and outside all the time....I love the dresses and skirts from those brands (and other similar ones), but they are SOOO out of my price range. I love that the dresses and skirts are feminine and very functional, too. Â Every once in a great while, I'll find something along those lines at a thrift store, but not often enough (deep sigh). Â
Â
For swimming and beach playing, board shorts work well for me. Â I don't like to call attention to myself, and board shorts can provide plenty of coverage for my comfort level without making me stick out from the rest of the crowd.
Try looking at what this website has to offer, ModestAnytime.com, if they don't have what you are looking for now, they might offer something new in the spring - summer time. Â Try letting them know what you are looking for. Â In addition, they run great contests and free giveaways!

I got a skirt bathing suit from land's end last year, and I feel like it's quite modest and comfortable, but it is annoying when I get out of the water because it's quite a bit of wet fabric.
EDIT to say:
Â
Whoops! Â Sorry, Mamas, that my DS crashed your thread! Â I just saw this under "Ive posted" and wondered when I posted here....it appears he had a little smiley party when I wasn't looking, lol. Â I'm sure that was obvious, but anyway, sorry!

I like the idea of wearing skirts, I think they look modest and beautiful, but I find that I don't normally wear them because it just makes my legs feel exposed and I don't like to wear pants/leggings underneath - too bulky. I'm comfy in pants -- but I'm always wearing a top that comes over the hip and covers my butt and/or thighs. To me it just feels weird to wear pants with my butt exposed. I usually wear tunic length sweaters and tops with pants -- I've found this is my style so I'm always looking for these types of tops in stores (which is great now because they're generally in style).
Â
When I swim, I wear waterproof capris and a long sleeve surfer shirt from REI. I occasionally wear over that a nice water proof skirt (for women runners) to cover my butt with the capris. I wear a bandana or swim cap.
We go swimming in our dresses. Most families here 'swim' in the creeks, so it is more wading, and floating around, really.
Â
A family I know bought swim suit material and made the nicest, prettiest dresses out of them, but most of us just wear normal clothes.
Â
I don't know anyone that really seriously swims though... it's more just playing around in the water. =)
