I want to get a good book about embracing puberty for my almost 11yo. She is very mature for her age and has been going through puberty for about a year. (Greasy hair, smelly, breast development.) She has been asking a lot of questions regarding her period. (She is excited for it! lol) Anywho I was just wondering if any of you have found a great one!

There are a couple of really good ones.

We like "Sex, Puberty, and All that Stuff."  It is VERY frank and I highly recommend pre-reading it to make sure that you are comfortable being that frank with your child.

You could also see what your public library has or go to your local bookstore by yourself and browse this section. This is an area where parents different in how they want the information delivered and how much information they feel is appropriate.

Thank you, my daughter and I are doing a mommy daughter day out so we will go to the book store and take a look. I was told by her therapist to stay away from the sexual aspect since she was sexually abused and knows more than she should of at that age and we have been working with professionals to go through that, make it positive again.

Have you looked at any of the books put out by American Girl?  The Care and Keeping of You was a good one at that age for my dd.  It's written in a pretty accessible and friendly manner.

We really like the American Girl books. Not into the dolls or anything. The puberty, self help, etc books are a different animal and very well done.

http://www.amazon.com/Whats-Happening-Me-Guide-Puberty/dp/0818403128  This book is really good, and you can usually find it at Borders or Barnes and Noble.  My mom got it for me when I was that age, and I really liked it.  I got it for my son.  Good luck with whatever you choose, though!  :)
