I feel so bad for my son (4 1/2 yo)- we found out he has perineal strep. it hurts him to go #2. everyday he cries and says, "oh no oh no" when it's time to go. poor kid!
Â
a little background. he has had "staph" type dots behind one knee for about a year- we could never get rid of it totally. they come and go- sometimes they outbreak on his bum--about the same time he got a BRIGHT red ring around his bum and was crying to go to the bathroom. (just wanted to share that since they "may" ba related?!) none of the bumps/zits have ever gotten very big at all (characteristic of MRSA) -- they are small and come and go.
Â
we took him in finally and the dr swabbed his bum (he had an open sore on the outside)- and it was positive for strep. He gave me a perscription for an antibiotic that he said was different than omnicef and also for a topical as backup.
Â
MY son is allergic to 3 main types of antibiotics (the remaining type is for urinary tract infections and doesn't treat ear infections of step, etc)----I went into the pharmacist thinking that they made a new antibiotic but she said,"NO it's the same type as omnicef and if he is allergic to omnicef he is allergic to this." she asked how he reacted and I said WELTS and she said--MAN that is a bad reaction and coudl turn anaphilactic (sp?) do not give this to your son."-
Â
I filled the topical and drove home crying and praying that it would work--when I went back to pick it up I cried--it was the SAME one that we tried back in ID for the staph type stuff and it didn't even touch them! (meaning they helped nothing!)
Â
so now I've hit a wall--my poorson is in pain everyday! I am all about preventative health and don't know much more. I don't normally give anti-biotics but I wanted to get rid of the staph/step for good. (but obviously not at the risk of his allergies)- I am afriad that this is like raging inside his body and he feels crappy! (it could also just be on the outside of the skin- I dunno though since the staph ahs been for a year (off and on) and the step for over a month now! HELP!
