Freezing casserole with biscuit topping?

Thread Starter

I want to make and freeze a chicken pot pie with a biscuit topping.  Should I bake it before I freeze it or just freeze with the raw biscuit on top?

If I freeze with raw biscuit, do I thaw completely before baking?

Thanks for your help, ladies!!

For best results: I would wrap the dough separately before freezing. Defrost the chicken mixture to room temp before baking and defrost the crust in the fridge. Just before baking, put the dough on the pot pie mix.

Second choice: I would freeze with the raw dough on top, then defrost completely in your fridge, the set on your counter for about an hour before baking.

I once froze a casserole with a cornbread topping without baking it first, and the topping was utter mush when I took the casserole out of the freezer and baked it. I would think you'd get similar results with a biscuit topping. Now I always bake before freezing, and it works a lot better.
