We are thinking about giving water birth at North Fulton Regional with Kim Storey from Isis. Can anyone share their experience if you:
1. Had a water birth here
2. Had Kim as your midwife
Also - do they use a jacuzzi tub or an actual tub?
I have just started seeing Kim Storey and plan on a water birth at North Fulton. This is my third baby and my first water birth. After 2 not-so-pleasant experiences at Northside I'm ready for a change and I have a much stronger vision of what I want my birth experience to be like. I can tell you that I have never felt so comfortable with a doctor/midwife. I went with a list of questions and she answered every single one with patience and even encouraged me to ask more. She knows what she's doing and I know that she will be a strong advocate and a wonderful midwife for my family. She gave all the answers I was hoping to hear :)
I've delivered twice at North Fulton. One water birth, one planned waterbirth, but didn't quite make it b/c baby came as they were filling the tub. As a hospital, I love North Fulton. Both times I delivered, it was as close to as if I was at home as I could be. The environment and the nurses as so supportive of natural birth. Birthing in the water is so wonderful. With that birth, I honestly don't remember feeling any "pain" other than when he was crowning, and the water really helped with that. One recommendation: get there in plenty of time! Since you need to be monitored for a full 30 min b/f you can get in the tub, if you get there too late (like I did) you may miss getting in. Also....another recommendation, if you are far along when you arrive and are being monitored, ask them if they can be filling the tub as you are waiting instead of doing it after they are all done b/c filling the tub takes some time too.
I delivered at N Fulton with Margaret and Kim was one of the 3 midwives I saw during my pregnancy. This was back in June 2008 when Margaret was still delivering there. I can't say that Kim was my favorite midwife and I did not particularly want her to deliver me. I can't really remember any specific reason, just a personal preference on personality. She knew what she was doing but I just didn't get the right vibe from her if you know what I mean. If you feel comfortable with her then I say stay with her.
N. Fulton was great and I delivered in a large whirlpool like tub, not an inflatable. I got there at 9 cm and they had time to fill the tub. The nurse I had was great and no one gave me any issues about my choices. I would go to N Fulton again if we have another baby
