...and that I am not crazy to NOT be worried about my 8 year-old still sleeping with me. I like it, she likes it. I don't see a problem. It's a relief to read that plenty of people do this and that kids are not severely traumatized by it later in life.Â
Â
Her dad (my ex) had some success with getting her to sleep in her own bed in her room when she's with him (half the time, we have shared custody and live very close to each other) but she's been crawling back into his bed lately claiming fear from nightmares. I'm still working on getting her to get herself up to pee at night, so I don't want to complicate that with getting her to sleep in her own bed when she's at my place.
Â
Still, I often get the hairy eyeball when I tell others about our sleeping arrangement and I feel defensive and somehow guilty. So, thanks to all of you who have shared your thoughts and experiences about co-sleeping and older children. It makes me feel validated that she will sleep in her own bed when she's ready.Â
