Looking for help finding an academic preceptor for NCM in Washington state

Hi ladies. I'm between two schools for my midwife training, MCU and NCM. NCM is my first choice but I have to find a preceptor in my area of Washington first. The Seattle side, not the desert side. ;) I've called places but mostly been only able to leave messages. I've also sent out emails and haven't gotten anything back. I've looked all over King, Pierce and Thurston counties. I'm desperate to find someone so I can utilize my first school choice. If anyone knows anyone or can point me in the right direction, I'd be eternally indebted. Thanks in advance!

What does MCU and NCM stand for?

MCU is the Midwives College of Utah and NCM is the National College of Midwifery. Apologies for lack of clarification.

They should be able to help get in contact with Midwives to precept with.

Thanks, but they aren't willing to help me. They have their own team they use for their students.

Well that's a bummer. It might be tough to find a preceptor without attending Seattle Midwifery School (at Bastyr), since they have a big presence in the area. I not certain, but that's a thought. Even the CNM program at University of Washington partners with the Seattle Midwifery School in the training of their students. In other areas, home study midwifery school is the only option for homebirth midwives, which isn't the case in Seattle. We have a CPM school that gives students a Masters in Midwifery and two traditional Universities offering a CNM program, the larger of the two gives students an option to do some homebirths for their clinicals.

What's involved for the preceptor? 

I would suggest most apprentices in this area utilize several preceptors to complete their training.  What's your plan?

There are women all over the Seattle area who are using NCM and the Utah college - have you tapped into that resource? 

I'd say some midwives exclusively use certain schools for training.  Others are more open.  If you find a preceptor that previously had a NCM candidate, that's a valuable source of information and a potential preceptor.  Are the schools helping with finding previous midwives who signed paperwork for them? 

There's also the Maine school - that has a significant presence here in the Seattle area, too, surprisingly.
