If breastfed, I'd say mom should try taking it to bowel tolerance for herself, and see if LO gets enough that way. My son did til he started eating solids, then I had to give it to him directly to make the same kind of impact on his colds.
Â
If babe is getting formula or donor milk, the when-sick guidelines I've read are 250 mg/kg body weight, which translates to about 1.1 grams per 10 lbs of body weight. That's spread throughout the day in 2-4 doses, so I'd try 250mg-ish per dose, aim for 5x/day (middle of the night will help) and then see if you need to go up. And if you have a HFS around that sells cell salts (also called tissue salts), the cell salt ferr phos is really helpful for the beginning of colds. There's a thread on cell salts in this forum if you want to read more.

thank you so much :) i've been reading a lot on here. I think my health food store sells it. my little man seems to be coming down with something so I want to be prepared just in case. what are your thoughts on it helping with reflux/stomach issues? i read on a website that it can actually cause the stomach to become more alkaline...is that true?

Is the reflux an ongoing thing, or just for recently with the illness?Â
Â
If it's ongoing, I'd think either food intolerance or a structural/alignment thing that you'd want to find a cranial-sacral therapist or a chiropractor to help with. Either one could predispose kids to getting sick more frequently--cause 7 weeks is pretty early for a first cold. Maybe it's a fluke, but it may be the beginning of a pattern.Â
Â
I've never heard of SA helping with reflux or digestive issues, but IME it doesn't hurt (vs ascorbic acid which is pretty harsh, even on my adult stomach it made me feel not-great).Â

thank you!!! little man has 3 older sisters, 2 in elementary school. no matter how hard we try the sicknesses just seem to keep coming thru the door with them. we have the wash your hands the second you walk in the door policy and they don't touch/hold him a lot. he seems to be feeling better now, thank goodness. maybe he was just having an off day. the reflux is an ongoing thing. my dd2 had it so when he was born i instantly recognized it. we're pretty rural and I haven't found a chiropractor that would see him yet. i've got one more office to check with.
