Had a midwife appt this morning. I can't believe it after last weekend, but my dilation and effacement are the same as last week! My cervix is still posterior and baby hasn't moved down enough yet to rupture my membranes, though I don't want to do that anyway.
BUT... I asked my midwife about castor oil and she was like, "yeah, you want to do that tomorrow morning?" She said they use it all the time at the birth center and that she did it with her first and that she didn't think it was bad at all, and certainly way better than having pit in L&D. This weekend would be great for me, next weekend not so much, so I'm pretty sure we'll be doing it tomorrow! That is, if the contractions I've been having since she swept my membranes again stop (which I'm sure they will, sigh). She said to call the birth center in the morning before taking it, make sure they have a room and nurse available for me and if they do then to blend it with ice cream.
I talked to a friend today who did it with her first and then had AROM with her second and she said the castor oil was hands down way better than AROM. So after doing some research yesterday and talking to my midwife and this friend about their experiences I am feeling pretty good about, I just hope it works! I'll be so bummed if it doesn't.
Of course, if I'm going to do this I'm going to need to get more sleep tonight than I did last night-- I couldn't get to sleep until probably 1 or 1:30 (though I slept for about an hour through a show earlier), and then MIL called us from Chicago because of the tsunami alert, haha. We really laughed about that, but she hasn't been to San Diego and I'm sure in her head we are close to an exposed beach and everything is flat like in Illinois. We ended up getting a 2 ft surge, so not exactly worth waking up at 5:45 am! Weird morning, though. I tried to get back to sleep but was hungry so I got up a little after 6 and both daughters were up and all awake, so we looked at some news videos from Japan and then my phone rang just once, it was my stepmom so I called back and she had called by accident. So lots of action really early, when we are normally all asleep. Well, DD1 is often up when I get up, she's an early bird. The rest of us are night owls though.
