Blankets, etc

Our first is due in May and I was wondering what would work best for the baby as far as keeping warm at night during summer months. I've looked at sleep sacks, but they mostly are made of fleece and I'm thinking the baby will get too hot in a fleece sleep sack next to another warm body in bed. Anyone have recommendations? Also, are you supposed to swaddle your baby at night or is that not recommended?

yea just swaddle her. I recommend the miracle blanket.

Some people still do but one of the co-sleeping "rules" is to not swaddle.  I thought I'd need more blankets but my DS is a little space heater!!  We tried giving him an extra blanket but he'd always start to overheat.

wow really?! I didn't know that! I am sure he will be fine without anything then. It's a summer babe? I wouldn't worry about it!

One layer of clothes and one blanket is usually enough.   Last night (Michigan in winter, room at 70 degrees) he was in a long-sleeve onesie and under my blanket with me up to the bottom of his chest.  The one-piece sleepers or closed end sleep gowns kept him pretty warm during the day too.  If he wore and open ended sleep gown it kept riding up and exposing his legs.  For the few times he slept away from us at night (and sometimes during the day too) I gave him a blanket over his clothes to help him feel contained.  He didn't like his arms wrapped up but wrapping him from armpits down like a 'baby burrito' was comforting to him.  If he was in a swaddle wrap the most he wore under it was a diaper and thin onesie because those things were pretty thick.

Our DD came in June and we just had her onesy and one sheet.  As it got colder in the fall, we added a thin (i.e., no duvet) blanket too that was stitched for us.  If it's really cold I give her one extra little blanket, but that's it.  I also have heard not to swaddle if co-sleeping - it's too dangerous.  If you were to start inching towards your baby, he or she would have no way to respond.
