Are we allowed to discuss in this thread? I'm just wondering if I should really worry about varying my workouts much to burn more fat or something? I really love the elliptical and frequently do it backwards as well..but I realize that my body will probably "get used" to this workout. Does it really make a huge difference, or is burning calories still just burning calories? Kwim?

midstream momma, of course, discussion is allowed :)  i think you should consider adding some strength training in with your cardio.. maybe 3 days a week of strength, and other days cardio.

Are the core exercises I do counting as strength training? Gosh, that sounds like such a stupid question. The exercises are done with a machine that has weights on it...kwim? Does that count? Should I be doing more? I feel so ignorant when it comes to this stuff!

midstream momma..  the core exercises are good, but i'd consider also adding in some legs/arms exercises.. all can be accomplished with bodyweight exercises  .. youtube has lots of videos to give you ideas.. push ups, burpees, squats, lunges, etc.
