Jobs and moving before DH to new state!

Hello! I am a new mother to DD who just turned 3 months today. I have a BS degree in Microbiology and Biotechnology (but I'm not working nor have I had any real work experience yet since I graduated last May) and my DH and I have discussed moving from MO to SC after we were both done with our degrees. He is graduating this May but I'm looking for a new job out in SC now. The question is, should I move ahead of him with our DD? Should I move before I get a job but have interviews lined up? Should I move only once I'm sure of a job (which I'm not sure they will GIVE you a job without meeting someone prior)? Or should I just wait and we tighten our belts since money is scarce?

Personally I would love to just be a SAHM but that can't happen for a couple years once the student loans are paid off and we can hopefully buy a house. I know I can make decent money as a microbiologist but I'd hate to leave my DH behind. I know he will miss our little one and I'll be lonely in a new town with just my sister nearby. If she was not going to be there I would have no childcare but since she is it would be less stress of finding someone trustworthy. What should I do? I'm nervous but know that I could do it by myself for a few months. DH wouldn't be able to move until the end of June which is a while from now...

Please help me talk this out! Thanks!

Stay put. You can do plenty of phone interviews, web-interviews, etc., especially in the early hiring phases anyway. Some companies will also pay to fly you out for an interview. Plus, you can also negotiate moving costs once you have an offer!

PS: why SC? NC has a huge biotech industry!

I guess I'm so worried that they won't hire me or even consider me if I don't go out there in a moment's notice. I'm pretty new (as in completely) at getting a professional job so I'm not sure how it all works. If they wanted to fly me out that would be awesome but I can't count on that. My DH is all for me going early and thinks I won't get a good paying job if I even say I need 2 weeks before starting because he thinks the job market is that bad. I know it is around our area we're currently at but I'm hoping out East it is better.

I've actually applied a few places on the border of NC/SC such as Charlotte because it does have better (and a lot more) jobs than SC. The best jobs I've seen are in Raleigh but that's too far away from where we're moving. The reason we're moving to SC is because of family property that DH will be managing as well as working (hopefully) at a hospital once he gets his degree. I don't mind a 1 hour to an 1 1/2 hour commute into NC and that's probably what's going to happen if I want a decent job. This is stressing me out so much dizzy.gif
