Would you go camping 3+ hours away at 37 weeks??? - Page 2

I personally wouldn't, since you do have a higher risk of cord prolapse.  Plus, 2 hours from the NEAREST hospital... is just a little too far for my comfort.  My first labor was a 21-hour induction.  My second labor was about 1 hour 15 minutes.  ;)  So you just never know.  I don't expect this one (third) to be as fast, but I am trying to prepare myself for the possibility.  If I AM going to end up with a UC, I'd rather be home, not 3.5 hours from home and far from my midwives and hospital, but that's just me.

My husband wanted to travel to GA (we live in CA) to visit family (his, not mine!) when I'm about 36 weeks, and my midwife basically said no way.  She certainly can't tell me what to do, but I'm glad that was her response because quite honestly *I* am not comfortable with doing that. ;)  I was uncomfortable last week on a <3 hour flight.

Thank you for all the advice love.gif Everyone makes a very good point about not going and it is something I need to really think about but, I still can't seem to make that choice all the way yet I think I am going to just wait and see what I can do as I get closer. I plan to ask at my next appointment and I liked the idea about getting checked out the day of the trip and making the call from that.

The cost involved in taking dd to do something else would be pretty high, they paid for the camp with girl scout cookie money. We could do something small but, nothing that would really make up for it.

Thank you!! Megan

I know it isn't the same, but if you decide you're uncomfortable with going, can someone else take your daughter?  A close adult friend whose company your daughter enjoys, perhaps?  I am not sure if I'd go if it were me (and I'm 37 weeks with no complications), but if my best friend or my sister wanted to take my daughter I think I'd talk to her about why I couldn't go and see if she wanted to go with someone else.

My first idea was to have my mom take her. Unfortunately, dd doesn't like to spend the night away from mom and dad, even at her grandparents house. So when I mentioned it she said no way. The troop leaders had told her she could go with them as well but, that was a no go for her. Great idea though, I wish that would work out because that would have been the best option for sure!

Ah, well.  I can respect that it's only a good option if she were comfortable with it!  :)
