any home remedies for eczema on the scalp?

My dermatologist told me that I have atropic dermatitis on my scalp.  I had this several years back, but it went away with strong perscription shampoo's, and now its back.

The shampoo the dermatologist perscribed is very strong and whenever it gets on the back of my neck, it causes like a chemical burn on my skin.  I have to leave the shampoo on my head for 5 minutes, so I guess its enough to irritate my skin if my hair falls onto the back of my neck.

Anyway, after having this irritation happen 3 times in two weeks, I have had enough!  Does anyone out there know of any homemade remedies for eczema, particularly atropic dermatitis?  I just want to get it to where my scalp doesn't itch all the time without using chemical laden shampoo.

My son has mild eczema and has gotten a few silver dollar sized patches of it on his scalp.  His pediatrician suggested Tea Tree oil and it cleared it right up.  I'd test a small patch first to see if it hurts.  It didn't bother him (but now I am blanking on whether or not I mixed it with some olive oil)

Thanks for letting me know about the Tea Tree Oil. I'll have to pick some of that up at the pharmacy.  I too have the eczema in patches on my scalp, not everywhere.  The spot that especially itches is on the left side, close to the back of my neck (where you hairline starts to end).  Its irritating to excuse myself to just scratch my scalp because it itches so badly right there.

Lush makes a product called Snake Oil.  It is WONDERFUL for scalp issues.  Pain to use and a little stinky (very herbal smelling) but works wonders.  Follow the instructions for washing it out (shampoo on dry hair, then wet) or you'll be a bit greasy but it works soooo well.  I think it's in the section of products that have been brought back from retirement, but I haven't seen it in a store in years.

that often can be fungal in nature.  I have used biotin in large doses successfully as well as calc sulph and kali sulph cell salts.  They can help quite a bit.   I have also used clay very effectively but it's a wee bit harder with long hair.
