Enlarged liver w/ 15mo old....reasons?

Thread Starter

My 15 mo old DS had blood work done a couple of weeks ago, elevated liver enzymes showed up.  Today he had an ultrasound which showed that his liver is enlarged (I was told not a little enlarged, but not massive, somewhere in the middle); the texture of the liver seemed fine (no cysts, no dark gray/black areas).  All the research I see shows reasons for an enlarged liver that don't match up with our lifestyle (fatty foods, obesity (he's 40% weight percentile), excessive use of tylenol and/or multivitamins, alcohol).  Anyone have any ideas?

Fatty liver?

I just read an interesting article on fatty liver, with a different take on the topic.  But I'm not sure if that's what you're looking at.

I have read about elevated liver enzymes being related to gluten intolerance and/or celiac disease.

this was the cause of mine.  I had a history of damaging prescription drugs too, but the enzymes and liver normalized after gluten was removed.  there are many reasons, but that is a reasonable one to consider IMO.
