I want to knit or crochet a blanket for my grandmother who is being placed in a nursing home today. She's in need of things to make her smile.
Any suggestions for a super fast knit or crochet blanket/afghan?
TIA ladies!

Are you on Ravelry? That would be a good place to look. Hemlock by Jared Flood is a super fast knit and even better, looks really impressive. Here is a link to his website:Â http://brooklyntweed.blogspot.com/2007/08/hemlock-ring-blanket.html
I did one this fall and it took about a week. Maybe less.
If I were the one making it, I'd have to go for the crocheted afghan, simply b/c I'm a way faster crocheter than I am a knitter. I'd also probably keep it very simple, so just a double crochet stitch all the way. Maybe choose a couple different colors and make a striped afghan, but not too many stripes b/c I hate weaving in the loose ends. The more complicated you get, the more time it will take to make.

If it's going to be laundered on site, you should probably choose an acrylic, or acrylic blend, so the afghan can withstand the industrial washing machines/chemicals.

Here's a basic, single crochet, striped afghan. Two strands of yarn held together crocheted Lion Brand Yarn Waterfall Afghan.Â
Thanks so much for your suggestions.

I ran out for yarn yesterday and picked up some thick & quick yarn (found it at Michael's for $4.49 a skein), it took three stores to find enough of my g-ma's favorite color. I also found a speed hook on sale for $3.99 so I snatched that up as well. I'm hoping the yarn holds up to the washing. Anyone use this yarn before? I've never actually used Lion Brand before.

I think I'm going to make a variation of the Lion Brand Speed Hook Shell Afghan. I do have to say that I'd like to try the Waterfall Afghan and the Fast Finish Throw knitted with speed needles. I hadn't ever really considered making a fast afghan for myself until now. lol

Thanks again ladies.
I'll post pics once I've finished the afghan.
