If you HS one (or more) of your kids and send one (or more) to school...

I would like to pick your brain.  My 6 yo is in 1st grade in public school right now and I'm planning on HSing him for 2nd grade and beyond, as long as it suits us.  My ds2 is begging to start kindy and I want to let him.  I have always thought all along that I would let the kids decide so I want him to have the chance to experience school.

I guess I just want to talk to people who do it and find out your experiences.  I'm a little concerned about the school giving me a problem pulling ds1 out though I have no indication that they would.  I wonder what his friends will think and if they will still want to hang out with him etc.

So how has it been for you?  And do you find that your schooled kids want to be hs'd?  I am hoping that ds2 wants to after kindy.

I HS my oldest (7 next week) and my 5 yo goes to pre-k. He is in a special ed program right now for a major speech delay and some other things. He however wants to keep going to school next year. He knows my oldest does school at home and on days he does not have school we generally do stuff at home as well so he understands the differences but he says he loves school and wants to go. He will be moved into a regular K class next year and academically he will do fine (he is advanced according to his teachers) but socially I think it might be hard for him because of some of his issues. However since he wants to go we will let him and see how it goes. My 3 yo is still to young to decided but has said he wants to go on the bus like DS#2 and go to school but of course we will not know for sure until he is older. I will always dream of having all of them home with me but realize that may not happen and slowly I am accepting that.

DSD is in PS (1st) and DS is homeschooled.

Personally i think it's a pain in the #$$ as i have to get up to take DSD to the bus, schedule around picking her up from the bus & i think PS teaches parents how to NOT be able to deal with their kids when their home. Personally i hate it and i would HS her if that choice were up to me.

I wouldn't worry about your DS's friends... if they wanted to hang out they would do so after school anyway so really it's not any different then if they were in different classes.
