Vegetarian TF'ers ??

I know for most this flies in the face of tradition, but dd and I are mostly vegetarian while still doing TF. We do a lot of fish, raw dairy and pastured eggs. We are both just HUGE animal lovers that it bothers us both to eat beef or chicken (though we do on occasion, a few times per year maybe, have a bit). I think we are fine considering that some of the cultures Weston Price examined, ate mostly seafoods and not a lot of other animal foods.

Anyway, any other vegetarian TF'ers out there? I'd love to hear your thoughs, ideas and exchange recipes. :)

I am not vegetarian, though I was for over a decade, however my husband and kids still are.  When I can afford to, I buy raw local milk and free range eggs, good quality cheese, etc, plus of course good fresh produce.  I've switched from yellow oils to coconut oil and more butter than we used to use.  And I'm trying to gradually switch to sourdough and fermented grains though we're all sort of dragging our heels on that one.  It's a work in progress!

This is mostly what I'm doing as well with dh.  (Kidney stones :(  )

I was vegan before we met, and vegetarian up until recently.  He's been enthusiastic but never on board 100% with vegetarianism, even though he's reaped health benefits from a lot of the things that come with living a healthier lifestyle.  We're both at a university, need I say more.  Anyway, we've been incorporating fish and lots of greens and whole grains, and we drink raw bottled kombucha regularly (I need to get on that, lol).

I feel like it doesn't fly in the face of "tradition" to eat very little (moderate) amounts of cow/steer and chicken meat, and mostly plant foods and what dairy/eggs we feel is necessary.  The documented health benefits of that are most definitely out there, and then you can avoid discrepancies of the whole grass-fed & pastured issue being "exempt" from those studies (which by all means they should be - just sayin').

I'm vegan and everything I eat would be right at home on a TF table. I've cut way back on grains, but love to make sourdough bread/injera once in a while, love my fermented veggies, use coconut oil for everything, get most of my protein from sprouted seeds and beans, etc.

My one IRL TF friend thinks I'm an idiot, but oh well. I can bench press her.

Lol isn't that the truth.  I flat out know I'm healthier and in better shape than 97% of the people who decide that my diet is something to be criticized.  The TFers I've come across love it because it's their excuse to fill up on "healthy" meat and saturated fats like there's no tomorrow - they're missing the point.

Hi Ladies-

I was veg for 11 years and vegan for 5 of those, but started eating meat a little over a year ago when I got pregnant with DD2.  I am so conflicted about it now and want to try to make the transition back to vegetarian, but with more of a TF spin.  I am gluten free and try to stay away from soy.... can you give me hints on how to make this work?  Some of your menus and favorite meals??? I have a 3 year old and a baby about to start on some solids (baby led weaning).  DH was veg and vegan with me all those years, but I don't think I will be able to get him back on the veg train, and DD1 really likes meat, so it may just be me.....

Any hints????

I would focus on whole foods first. I just read the price-pottenger nutrition recommendations and love that they say to only eat foods that can spoil. I think if you want to be veg and tf its espec important to get excellent source s of animal foods like raw pastured milk, maybe fish, pastured eggs, good cheeses and fermented dairy etc. And prob important to soak grains since you aren't getting al the benefits of bone broths - which. is precisely where I fall apart. I'm awful at soaking grains!

Recipes... soaked oatmeal, egg dishes, veg dishes w a tall glass of raw milk etc

One of my fave lunches is an egg fried in butter on buttered sour dough toast. Put a slice or two of raw cheese on the toast and top with the egg like an open faced sandwich. Have some spicy kimchi or sour kraut on the side. Keeps me full and energized for hrs.

I'm vegan (or freegan, I guess), and we eat a lot of traditional foods.  We have sourdoughs, sprouted grain breads, sprouted seeds and beans, fresh and frozen vegetables from the garden.  I love the book Wild Fermentation.  It has lots of ideas about how to incorporate fermented foods into a vegan diet.  Most of his recipes are vegan.

Also, if you think about it, there is a long tradition of vegetarianism and veganism in the world.  Monks and nuns have eated vegetarian or vegan diets for millenia for ethical reasons.  Many less wealthy cultures depend on vegetarian diets as well.  Traditional foods should not be confined to meat eaters.
