how to get 2yr old to not push over 6m old?

cuz he thinks its hilarious. today i checked my toddler into the ground because was about to pounce on the baby! (i didnt hurt him, just being a bit dramatic =) )

so far i go straight to the baby, pick him up, cuddle, say things like, "are you ok?" or "oh, that must have hurt." i usually have a sad face, tell my toddler, "you hurt V" but its been about two months since he first started knocking over the baby and there has been no change at all.

i dont usually leave them in a room together, but every now and then i need to get up and go across the room.

suggestions?

eta: he doesnt quite understand reasoning yet. he can do simple commands (your blankie is on the table, give mama your shirt, etc), but any lenthy discussion will totally be lost to him.

I think the only choice in toddler vs. baby is to protect the baby. It is almost always inconvenient but needed. Pack and play, high chair, or just carry baby with you. Sorry I don't have the magic answer...

i figured those would be my only options. baby is pretty much on me all the time, but every now and then i just want to get up on my own w/o doing anything special. oh, what high hopes i have :)
