supplies for UP

I have just been to try and see my fourth dr today.  The other three have dismissed me and refused me as a patient because I refuse to have a scheduled c-section and have decided on the DANGEROUS route of a VBAC.  I also will not wait three hours in a clinic with my 2 year old to see a dr.  Apparently this is something unreasonable.

This one refused to see me today because I didnt bring my 8 week prenatal coupon to the appointment.  (I will be 25 weeks on Monday).

Anyway,  I would like to keep track of how things are progressing on my own.  Does anyone know of a place online that sells some kind of kit or strips to test for protein and sugars in urine?

www.inhishands.com has a variety of DIY prenatal and birth supplies.  They have the test strips in the midwifery supply section...  :)  good luck!

Are you sure you need the test strips. I have done UP7 times now and never tested for those things.

Yes, I wonder the same thing myself.  Though in my heart I have always wanted this pregnancy to be my UBAC my husband flat out refused and will not go along with it or be comfortable with it.  So I have a traveling midwife coming for the birth in June.  Problem is that she needs some sort of reassurance that I and the baby are 'healthy enough' for a home birth and needs a report on how things are going.  Also had pp pre-eclampsia after my section (though I believe that was a bad reaction to the mix of drugs I was given) so making sure my protein intake is  high would be reassuring.

Found some strips on Amazon.com.  Hopefully those will work.

I understand, what exactly does she want to see from you? I am due in June too :)

Congrats on your June bug!

The midwife wants a monthly report with BP, Fundal Height, weight, urinalysis (specifically protein and glucose), fetal heart rate and then at 28 and 36 weeks blood work for clotting factors and iron.  Everything except the blood work I can do by myself (once my strips arrive) so this so far is the only glitch in how things are going now.

I feel fantastic, the only time I feel frustrated scared and upset is whenever I go near a clinic or hospital......

So far my midwife has been supportive, but if I cant get those blood tests not sure how things will go.  Perhaps in the end it just might be a UBAC anyway.

Just a thought, but can you just randomly get checked with the blood tests. Just go to any doc (rather than an OB) and request them? Or if you have a local Naturopath that is able to request such tests? Maybe a chiropractor could even request those???

I dislike most mainstream docs and I dislike at least one midwife. LOL I'm all about UP and UC I think. Do whatever you feel comfortable with. Maybe you could share more info with your DH to try to get him to come around? Maybe share some info on the risks of hospital birth and the risks of repeat C/S, etc. An maybe share some positive UBAC birth stories. Explain that you'd be willing to get assistance if something was very wrong.

My hubby is nervous about UC but he's willing to do what I'm comfortable with and he's a studying type. If I get all the info together and share it, he'll read through it and I think he'll feel much more comfortable after that.
