Looking for healthy cupacke recipes for first birthday! Anyone have any good ones?

Hello everyone,

My daughter turns one this Friday (I can't believe it!!) and I would love to start a traditional cupcake eating yum-fest but I'd like to keep it healthy; at least for now. She occasionally has organic puffs but that's the only time she has any sugar besides what she gets in fruits. She eats mainly fruits and veggies and she still breastfeed several times a day. She has just started eating plain yogurt and cheese. I don't want to just hand over a cupcake loaded with sugar.

Does anyone have any good recipes maybe using applesauce or fruit or something along those lines? Whole wheat flour... Something that she'll love, that won't load her with too much sugar (especially refined), but that can have icing and be fun for her to dig into?

Thanks!

Hi there,

I made the first "cake" listed here - it's kind of dense so I think it would make good cupcakes, too.  Farther down the page are some icing links - I used the cream cheese based one.  It looked cake-and-frosting-like, but without any junk so I didn't stress when my DD ripped it apart and ate some.  :)

Have fun!
