Okay, I am new here but I am going crazy. I have an almost 5 year old boy and a 3 month old. The last few months my oldest's behavior has spiraled. I am thinking it has to do with the introduction of a new baby. But, he is being downright mean sometimes. He tells us he doesn't want us to be his parents, he says he doesn't like us, calls us stupid when he gets angry and will lose control over the tiniest (in my adult mind) thing. Sometimes he sounds like a primal animal! We have been trying very hard to stay patient and not lash out or lose our tempers. We explain how it makes us feel, etc. This behavior seems to really increase (the meanness) on weekends when Daddy is home. DH works with children and says he sees this behavior in kids older than my son, however, these kids are generally not disciplined gently. Their parents spank, yell, etc. So please, is this a normal developmental stage? It just seems like my son loses control easier and more often than other kids his age...or maybe I just don't see it. Any insights/advice?
