 I do plan  making some fleece pull on covers eventually.

I just bought a sewing machine at a garage sale this weekend, so I'm gong to be starting some projects. :)

I REALLY want to pull our my sewing machine, but I have no idea where the cord is!  We had a giant flood in our basement and everything got tossed around.  I'm wanting to try the fleece diaper pattern I see one here.  I know that financially the only way to cloth diaper is to be self sufficient and make them myself- but Im a knitter!  I only want to knit things! 

I'm thinking I should try to find a good place to barter.  Lol.

I am currently working on this hat and this sweater. Both are VERY easy and I can't wait for the finished products! I'll share pictures when they are done. Right now the sweater seems big (for being 0-3mo size) but it will fit him at some point, so I'm not worried ;)

Something totally NOT baby related, but I just had to share!! 

Today I whipped together a cover for a sleeping mat we bought for my dog for camping. I can't bear the thought of her sleeping on the cold, hard ground - but she can't sleep with me anymore! 

 

So we bought a little self inflating mat:

 

And I folded it in half and made a cover!:

Sorry it's so dark - it's cloudy today.

 

Here's the opening. I made the brown fabric overlap so the mat is protected:

 

 

I bought that cute camping fleece fabric as a remnant (marked half off) and it was just enough to make this! 

The brown fabric is a thick linen.

Can you order a new cord? I know for my machine the replacement cords are not expensive.

I sewed up some fleece soakers today that look a lot like these.  I got the idea from a site I was looking at that suggested recycling old fleece blankets and robes, so I used some ole fleece blankets.  They seem REALLY thin, though.  I have never cloth diapered so I dont know what is considered normal.  On the 4th one I did I added an extra layer inside. 

How many layers are these?  How thick is the fleece?

I used the katrina soaker pattern, they are the nb size. I haven't cd'd before, so these may be too small. But they are one layer of I think blizzard fleece from Joanns. I was going to make bigger sizes and add an extra layer in the wet zone if my machine hadn't died on me.

Ash, I'm a knitter, too. I'm just trying to find the cheapest diapers I can and am knitting lots of covers.

I have been following along here and wanted to finally throw my hat in the ring.

Here are a couple of pics of things I've made so far.  All from recycled materials (egads we have a lot of old t-shirts to use up).

Pants in various sizes (ok, a couple don't have the waistband yet), the 2 middle bottom pairs are wool longies.

 

Newborn sized wool soakers from a sweater.  

.

Some random pants, leg warmers, hat, bib and shoes.

I just got a serger (and figured out how to thread it) so I'm hoping to step up the sewing as soon as summer settles in and we quit traveling so much.  I want to make lots of little undies (we EC), tights and random fun stuff.

Those are awesome Seraf!  You have given me a whole lot of recycling ideas :)  We don't have any old wool, but I bet I could find some at Goodwill for cheap.

Thanks dashley, all my wool is from the the thrift store.  But then everything I wear is from thrift, too.  Oh, but I was wrong, the blue Thomas pants were from material we originally got for a carseat cover.  I really like the look of the Katrina soaker pattern (and I have made them before, they sew up nicely), but I feel like the bum sweater pattern is a more efficient use of material since I can use the inverted triangles to make soakers, too.  I got 8 newborns and 2 mediums from 1big sweater body (the sleeves had long ago been sacrificed for long snow pants for a toddler).  Of course I don't really need 8 newborn covers, but I would rather give away the extras than have to throw away scrap.

Thought diaper sewing mamas would like to see this :) I discovered cheap PUL on clearance http://www.fabric.com/clearance-fabric-fashion-fabric-clearance-discount-fabric-65-off-apparel-fabric-pul-fabric.aspx there's only white. No idea if its as good quality as you can get elsewhere, but its worth mentioning that the PUL sold at joanns.com has mixed reviews.. some reviewers having issues, others saying they've made loads of diapers with no problems? Depends on batch? Might not even be the same supplier as fabric.com? *shrug* but I figure for the price, it might just be worth the risk eh? Also, and I'm not sure if this code still works, but CLEAR511 is supposed to take an additional 30% off clearance.

I just scored a super soft wool sweater off freecycle. a relatively lightweight one. Ahh, gotta love when people shrink their sweaters on accident ;) I had that sucker cut out and sewed into a nb romper within a couple hours of getting it home! And if tapatalk decides to ever work for me again (grrr! paid apps should *always* work!) I'll post some pics. I find the process of take picture, email to pc, save, figure out where chrome decided to save it (it doesn't let me choose the folder. ugh. and puts it some place obscure thats always complicated for me to get to. there's 2 "download" folders in completely different places and i will NEVER remember which one it likes to use) then once found, go to forum, and upload it.. just such a PITA! I literally DLed tapatalk so I could post pics without any drama. Its red, with maybe the slightest hint of a cranberry color to it, and I used white as the trim! The pattern is a NB, but runs slightly big so I'm hoping it still fits around Christmas. I grow my babies HUGE :P both were 14 lbs 8oz at 6 weeks.

Yesterday I perfected my serger corners by making cloth baby wipes!

I bought flannel receiving blankets at Goodwill for $.99 for TWO. I bought a TON, not only to use, but the cut up to make wipes and onesies and pants. 

So I cut up two and made 18 12"x6" wipes - which can be folded in half for messy stuff or left open for ... less messy stuff 

So how many receiving blankets should I keep whole to use as intended? I'm sure I'll get some from the baby shower, too...
