Looking for stroller recommendations for my 6.5 year old 40 lb son. He does not qualify for a medical stroller. It would be mainly used for him while in large crowds as he does not handle them well. It will also make family vacations and trips to malls and other crowded places more enjoyable for everyone. I need something that is going to have a cover that I can pull over him to keep him shielded from the sun and give him a little more privacy. I have looked at some umbrella strollers they just aren't the durability that i am looking for. Thought about a jogging stroller but have heard such mixed reviews.

I think a jogger is probably what you'll want - with that weight it is much easier to push. We have a phil and teds and I can push the 2 kids (combined weight ~65lbs) easily. The nice thing about the phil and teds is the wheels are small and the front can be independent/swivel or locked, so it can work well in crowds (swivel front makes for tight turns). There was a cheaper one like the one we have at a local store that we almost bought but it was just for one kid and we wanted the doubles feature.Â
Â
There are a lot of joggers out there that might suit your needs - I'd go check some out in the store, see what fits and what you like, then come back and ask about specific ones or look for reviews on amazon.

When kids were younger, I used to use a burley both attached to bike and as a stroller. Â I got the d'lite that was wider to fit both kids in. Â It also folded flat in car trunk. Â My dd liked it because she is shy around strangers and the child is in a pod. Â Because it was meant to carry two kids, so would be plenty wide for one kid, but am not sure about the length. Â I would think you could get other brands of bike trailer/stroller that might be good, like the chariot. Â

I have a BOB and a double BOB, my 4.5 year old 35# son is super easy to push around in either. In the double he is with my 22# 1yr old. I find it super easy to navigate and just basically awesome. It also has a really tall seat area, my son is 43" and he still has a little room over his head. Not true in our 3 other stroller. We have the revolution for both, which has a pivoting front wheel. I got mine on craigslist for... well less than retail. They are pricey and popular, so they sell fast. But- the flip side of that is that is when you are done you can sell it for most if not all of what you pay.Â
We have litterally tried every stroller. My daughter is a big 3 year old and our major problem has been back height. The BOB back is very short, the Phil and teds canopy is too low, etc etc, we finally settled on the Baby Jogger city elite. The back is litterally the tallest we could find and the sun shade is awesome, comes all the way down and creates a nice place for her to chill when she gets overwhelmed. It is also narrower than most joggers and very easy to steer even with a 40lb child in it, the weight limit is around 100lbs.
