waldorf

Thread Starter

I'm currently unschooling my 7 year old and 20 month old and I'm really interested in Waldorf philosophy and practice.  I am happy with the unschooling to a degree, and yet I feel like all of us could use a little more structure, or at least a starting point.  I was wondering if anyone could recommend any Waldorf books and/or websites?

Seven Times the Sun is one of my favorites for developing rhythm.

These books are really for the under 7 crowd but will help with your 20 mo

In adding some Waldorf things to your unschooling life (since I think the two can coexhist nicely although I know some people disagree with that)

Also, others may have some book recs. for form drawing and wet-on-wet painting, and hand-crafts for your 7 y.o. as well as anthroposophy specific books/websites.

And as always.....You can't mention Waldorf without mentioning Carrie and her beautiful blog!

We are a Waldorf- AND unschooling-inspired family.  I agree that the two can coexist.  :)

Another book that wasn't mentioned was You Are Your Child's First Teacher.

Some blogs that I love (besides Carrie's Parenting Passageway, of course!) are:

Farmama - http://farmama.typepad.com/farmama/ She's unschooling but living on a farm, I think a lot of the Waldorf elements are incorporated (time in nature, handwork, rhythm (inherent in farm life!) and from the pictures, their home looks like a lot of the Waldorf homes you see).

Celebrating the Rhythm of Life - http://celebratetherhythmoflife.blogspot.com/ - simple ideas for rhythm, crafting, loving this site right now!

Ancient Hearth - http://ancienthearth2.blogspot.com/ - also new to this blog, but so much information on HEing in the Waldorf style - she has documented her first grade year HEing her two daughters, and they are now in the 2nd grade year.  It's helped me a lot to see how we're going to put it together.  (My eldest just turned 6!)

Rhythm of the Home - http://rhythmofthehome.com/ - so much information in this quarterly 'magazine', Waldorf/Montessori stuff, information on rhythm, inspirational things for momma/daddy to read, and oh-so-many amazing crafts!

I have a lot of other blogs that I follow and are inspired by, but these jumped out at me right now.  :)

We are an unschooling, Waldorf inspired family. What I like about Waldorf is the gentle rhythm that surrounds the day!

Some of my favorites that may not be 100% Waldorf, but are still great reads for the inspired are:

We are also a Waldorf-inspired unschooling family at the moment.  I didn't know so many of us were on here, LOL!

I'd recommend looking at Little Acorn Learning (they have free samples available) to add more "structure" to your days.  We will be using that for kindy this next year.  Also Wee Folk Art has seasonal hs-ing curricula, as well as Seasons of Joy.  These are all good.

Beyond the Rainbow Bridge and You Are Your Childs First Teacher are both great.
