New here! Want to make a Bummis SWW Clone

I do know how to sew :) but haven't made diaper covers before and that's what I'm needing right now.   A friend gave me a bunch of fabric from her failed diaper-sewing experiments.  I think it's PUL?  It's regular fabric on one side, and sort of plastic-coated on the reverse side - it really seems pretty stiff, but I'm assuming it'll soften up in the wash?

So I'm thinking I could clone a bummis super whisper wrap with it?  I got the cut just about right, but I don't know what that kind of bias tape is they use around the edge?  I can't think of anything so soft that's also water-proof.  I peeked at the kids in the garden website, and all I can find is some kind of foldable elastic, which doesn't say if it's water-proof or not, and I'm not sure that's the correct thing I should be looking or anyhow.

Any help is appreciated!

The KITG stuff is called fold-over-elastic, or FOE. It's not waterproof but it's probably the most common type of cover binding used. I've used it plenty myself and would recommend it for a Bummis SWW knock-off. You need to make sure you use polyester thread when sewing a cover so it doesn't wick moisture through. Cotton thread will do this. Even though FOE is not waterproof it works very well until your diaper underneath is saturated. Then you get leaking but this is true for any diaper. If you already cloth-diaper you will probably be familiar with this. If not, then just remember to have plenty of absorbency in the diaper and change often.

PUL is shiny and coated on one side, soft poly knit fabric on the other. It does not really soften up with washing. It comes in different thicknesses, though. I like 1 millimeter personally. There is also 2 mil and sandwich PUL, which doesn't have a shiny side as it is between two fabric sides. Good luck! I know of a board that has a lot more diaper-making advice if you are interested.
