Foods that help with congestion?

Hey guys, I need your help!

I've got an *almost* one year old wit a cold. He's mostly breastfed, but eats some solids. No dairy. Anyone know foods that he can eat encourage release of congestion? Or any foods to avoid that promote congestion?

He's asking for avacado and carrots today so I was curious about what foods aid colds. Thanks!

I am not sure about foods but some spices that work are ginger and cayenne pepper and fresh garlic. check out the post I made on Ocean's babies thread about her baby that is still congested. I left a recipe there.

when my little one is congested, I make up a paste of fenugreek and thyme with about 5 drops of grapefruit seed extract all together in about one tsp of honey. One capsule of Nature's Way Fenuthyme is what I use. It tastes awful, but it does help. I do this two to four times a day for about a week. Started doing it when ds was about 18 months.

Also, I find that ds gets more congested when he eats sugary foods and not enough fresh stuff.
