YES! ~I want to hear what you said YES to today and how it turned out!~

Some of the best parenting advice I've ever received was to "say yes".  I'm always on the lookout for opportunities to say yes and today I had one.

DD1 came into my bedroom early and asked if we could have pancakes for breakfast.  Usually pancakes are a weekend breakfast (or dinner) but I didn't have any good reasons to say no, so I said YES!  And we had a great time mixing and making and DD2 watched for the bubbles to pop and alerted us.  It was great time!  And both girls cleaned their plates, which doesn't often happen with them.

I want to hear your "saying YES!" stories!!

at 2 1/2 saying yes to icecream for bfast. i started with a no and thought what the heck. lets put it to a test. will she always want icecream for bfast. is that what she is only going to eat.

she had a blast. was sooo happy. and ten minutes later ate her oatmeal. and no she didnt always ask for an icecream for bfast.

lesson learnt - to honour those urges that kids have just like us.

dd's best memory was a pint of icecream she ate when she was 6.

our best days have been when i changed my no to an yes.

I have an aunt that's a nurse who would let her kids eat anything for breakfast ( leftovers, ice cream, cake...) When people wold scoff at it she would reply, "Have you ever read what's in a box of kid cereal? It's the same as the cake I made!"

I'll have to try this yes thing.......

OF COURSE you had to have pancakes today! It's Pancake Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday)  lol.gif !!

I'm sure it would have been bad kharma to say no, today of all days (yes, let's mix up our religious traditions here!).

We're having our pancakes for dinner. I was going to make very fancy blini, but we'll be crunched for time tonight, so it will be basic flapjacks with maple syrup instead. Our time crunch is thanks to the things I've said yes to:

"Yes, you can go to BFF's after school and before work tonight. I'll pick you up and drive you to work" (14 y.o. DD is a timekeeper for our hockey house league).

"Yes, I will pick you up from your garage band practice and take you to your hockey game (17 y.o. DS is playing tonight)

"Yes, I will pick you up from work" (DH is working late tonight)

Other yes-es:

"Yes, you can take $20 from my wallet for bus tickets"

"Yes, you can borrow my sweater"

"Yes, you can have the last 2 eggs in the house for breakfast, I'll shop for groceries so we can make our pancakes tonight"

They all seem kinda pedestrian though. I'll have to watch for an opportunity to say yes to something really fun. Thanks for the thought!

My girl asked to go to the morning story time at the library this morning so I said "Yes!". After story time we went to the grocery store to pick up eggs and she asked if we could get strawberries too so I said 'Yes!" then when we got home she wanted to play blocks- guess what- "Yes!"... I like being a yes-mom :)

I didn't even remember until after the pancakes were over and done with!  DD must have had a sixth sense about it!

Oh, any day, really! I like hearing other parent's stories.  Especially ones that make me think a little differently about various situations.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling, ladies!  I hope that others will chime in with their YES! stories!

DD had a check-up with her Dr today and asked to go to a nearby restaurant afterwards for BBQ (a guilty pleasure for both of us).  It was close to 3 in the afternoon so would totally blow our appetites for a real dinner but I said YES.  We went, ate a full meal, had a grand time and made and ate veggie plates for dinner.
