need a bottle/ nipple the he will take for EBM

My little guy is a very good eater, almost three months now, so BF is well established. I have lots of extra milk and have been hand expressing 1-2 oz a day and storing it in the freezer. I would love to use this milk so that my husband can feed the baby and give me time to do homework or sleep, and to write my exam in a few weeks. However, the he won't take the bottle.

The one we have now are Nuk brand and are supposed to be 'naturally' shaped to support breast feeding (which I know is BS, but they were a gift so gave them a shot). But just spits it out and makes a face. I have tried having the milk at different temperatures, warming the nipple, and offering the bottle when is very hungry and after some BFing. Nothing works. Does anyone have suggestions for a nipple that he might take? I'd like some suggestions before I waste a bunch of money...

Have you had your husband give the bottle with you not anywhere around? My second ds wouldn't take a bottle from me as he knew I had the real thing, so why take the bottle!  The Avent bottles worked pretty well for him, and the sitter had to squeeze a bit of milk into his mouth so he realized it was there and then he'd take it. Not happily, but he would. For this LO, I picked up some 'breastflow' bottles as they're supposed to mimic breastfeeding suck/compression with the double internal nipples.

Good luck!

Thanks! I'll get my husband to try that.

Another tip I remembered today was that if you're going to want to give bottles, then you should keep at regularly--like once a day--for a period of time so he'll get used to it, and then keep it up every few days. You don't want him to get out of the habit of taking a bottle if it will be necessary (or nice) for him to take one.

Someone told me to look at my nipples just after my child let go. Then when looking for bottle nipples to try and find one which looked most like it. Dh though it was hilarious comparing them all and trying to find ones most like mine, I really should have left him at home.

I'm not sure how well it worked as DS was still not that interested in a bottle

The problem with this is that every time I try, it wastes more EBM!

We've gone through the gamut of bottles, and Medela was working good for us until recently. But, I think the PP advice is good. It has to be consistent & most likely he won't take it from you. DS goes to daycare in the afternoons and, until recently (he's 10 mos), he's taken a bottle there.

I know that you work hard for your EBM and you can't bear to see it wasted. Believe me, my 10 mo old has gone on a bottle strike, so I've been wasting my hard earned 3-4 oz daily for about a month. But, it's a necessity. He wants you, but you have to train him that it's OK to take the bottle from time-to-time when your not there. BM is wasted and it's a heart-wrenching thing for us who have pumped it (on the same level as a home-cooked meal not being eaten). Just know that the wasted BM only last for a few days & then you LO will get the hang of it. Good luck.

ps - we also had good results with the Breastflow bottles, until the daycare lost the inner nipple.Still not quite sure why the bottle got taken apart.

We had good luck with the breastflow bottle. I'd also try with fresh milk vs frozen-- google lipase for ideas on how to deal with milk changing in taste after a while.

just make sure not to buy a bunch of one kind of bottle until you know he will take it. we had to try a few different ones before we found something that would work for DD. she ended up liking the evenflo bottle that came with my pump (and they don't sell that particular nipple except with the pump, so we were stuck with only one nipple) and then when she was older (9 months) she liked the Avent bottles. the breastflow bottles didn't work for us, I think because DD had a somewhat shallow latch, so it was too big for her to latch onto the way she wanted. they made her really gassy because she would suck in a lot of air.
