Mattress wrapping to prevent toxins?

Has anyone tried this?

We are inheriting my moms memory foam mattress for DD and I just DO NOT like the idea of the chemicals in her mattress that she'll be sleeping on. As it is, if you lay your head on the bed you can't miss the smell oozing out of it!

I'm giving it a go! If anyone is interested, I'll keep you posted =)

subbing...looking fwd to hearing what you think.  we might be getting a large credit to Sleepy's for a warranty issue (keeping my fingers crossed) with the mattress we have now and HATE.  I am interested in a tempurpedic based on feedback from so many folks but have real serious concerns about the off gassing.

Ikea sells mattresses free of flame retardants etc. They are made to European standards. It's another choice when buying mattresses.

Does anyone know if their mattress toppers are also manufactured the same way? I assume. anyone with experience with these?
