My pedi office just called to tell me I need to start my 10 month old on iron supplements. His iron levels were 31.2, and they want it to be above 32. They want me to give him 1 dropperful, twice a day. That just seems unnecessary to me. He does eat bites of solid foods, but is more interested in learning to walk right now. He still nurses around the clock. If I eat more iron rich food would that help him? What foods can I offer to him? He will eat cooked spinach and beans. I'd really like to avoid giving him iron supplements if at all possible. They said they will re-check the levels at 1 year.
