The pediatric optometrist we saw yesterday recommended this for Vivian because her prescription has gone from -1.0/-1.5 at age 3 1/2 to -3.5/-3.0 at age 5.
Most kids her age are still farsighted, if anything, and this is clearly a drastic change. The Dr said that some studies have suggested this contact lens device, if worn all night every night, could drastically slow the change of her eyes. The downside being, of course, you have to get contacts on a 5-year-old every night
and they cost, like, $1500 that insurance probably won't even consider paying for. And, you know, contacts on a 5-year-old?? But her vision's getting pretty bad pretty fast...
