HBAC in Brooklyn - looking for midwife feedback (Tioma Allison, Kimm Sun, Memaniye Cinque, Marcy...

Hi all,

For various reasons (availability, location, etc) we've narrowed down our HBAC choices to Tioma Allison, Kimm Sun, Marcy Tardio and Memaniye Cinque (haven't interviewed all of them yet - all soon) and although I know a HUGE part of any homebirth is our personal connection with the midwife, I'd love to hear about others' experiences with those midwives.  I've actually already gotten lots and lots of feedback on Marcy Tardio, but next to nothing on the other three - Tioma Allison, Kimm Sun, and Memaniye Cinque.  If you've had a homebirth (especially an HBAC) with any of them, please chime in either on the thread or through PM?  Tx so much!

I met Stacey Rees from Clementine. She is a wonderful woman, and I wouldn't think twice about having her deliver my baby. But, she doesn't do HBACs right now, and I had a c/s with my first kiddo. Don't know if this pertains to you though...

Who did you pick?  They all performed HBAC?  I am not pregnant, but had a C/S and dreaming of a HBAC one day.

I don't know about Kimm Sun, but the others in the OP work with HBAC mothers, as do a number of other city midwives. NYC is pretty good for HBAC possibilities, as long as you don't wait too late in your pregnancy to contact the midwives; they book up quickly.

I had my HBAC with Memaniye, and will be having another (HBAHBAC) with her in the coming weeks.

So sorry not to have responded sooner, Heather, I didn't get notification that anyone had responded!

Anyway, we picked Memaniye also :)  Very excited!  Liked her so much ended up not even interviewing everyone!

Kimm, btw, does do HBACs - I talked to her on the phone about it (booked an interview, but canceled because after meeting Memaniye I didn't want to bother).

I've had HBAC with Kimm Sun lately. The experience was great!  Kimm is very professional, knowledgable, caring, and attentive person. I'd definitely choose her as my midwife again! I also have to mention the important detail: she does water birth. I highly recommend you to talk to her.

All the hb midwives do waterbirth, so far as I know :)

I just met with Memaniye and both my husband and I loved her! She was very supportive of HBAC. So happy you all gave me advice and let me believe there were options.

Hi garancew!  Congrats on your pregnancy :)  We ended up not having a homebirth with Memaniye after all, so I can't offer thorough feedback (rather not go into it, but rest assured, it had nothing whatsoever to do with Memaniye, she was great).  I would suggest checking in with the other posters on the thread who used her.  Another friend of mine totally loved Memaniye at her very long birth, and her description of Memaniye's calm and supportive bedside manner helped me feel really comfortable choosing her.  I did find Memaniye incredibly supportive the few times we met with her.  Best of luck with everything!
