18mo Nursling Breastfed thru Stitches

Hi all,

I've come here to vent about negative comments made to me about nursing, so here is something positive that happened: My 18m DS had to get stitches above his eye today - 3 in total.  I asked the dr if she'd be willing to stitch while I nursed and she did!  She said she'd never done it before, but was willing to give it a shot.  It worked out really well.  The only time he cried was when the cut was being irriagated with water (more b/c the water was spilling all over his face and he HAD been sleeping on the breast).  While she was sewing him up he just looked all around with breast in mouth.

I am so happy.

I love it when the medical world accepts our nursing superpowers. My son had a double ear infection on his second birthday checkup and my doctor offered me the option of antibiotics or wait and see with extra nursing. His suggestion. It helps that he is married to an LLL leader.

I recently nursed my 16 month old through a blood draw, I can't imagine how it would have gone if I "wasn't allowed". He barely even cried. Oh the power of breastfeeding!
