He's STILL Congested! Please help!

It's going on two weeks now and doesn't seem to be getting much better. He is perfectly happy, he hasn't had a fever since the first day, his ears are fine, his cough is getting better, but he is still soooo congested. I've tried breastmilk and suction, which works great temporarily but the next day we're back to congestion. I gave a decongestant because we were flying, which didn't do a whole lot, which is fine really cuz I don't like to use decongestants normally anyway. I've done the steamy bathroom, etc. But it is all just temporary relief. How can I get rid of this?

It took us two months to get rid of this garbage. If it isn't bothering him I wouldn't worry too much about it. You might try getting some Grapefruit Seed Extract nasal spray. That is supposed to help and also I will include a recipe for a mucous cleasning broth. Have you tried hot water, lemon juice, Ginger and honey? that sometimes is good too.

nasal spray http://www.diannecraft.org

Mucous Cleansing Broth
1 qt. homemade chicken stock

In a large pot, saute 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 tsp horseradish, and
apinch of cayenne 'til aromatic for 5 min. Add chicken stock and
simmer for 7-10 minutes. Top with nutmeg and snipped parsley.

Makes 4 bowls.

I use a penneyroyal bath. It smells like uecolyptis but is helpful.

a handfull of dried leaves. simmer in 1 quart water for 20 minutes. Strain leaves and dump in tub while hot. Mix. Water will look greenish but smells great.

It is good for helping to bring up phlem, aids in reducing fever and helps the body to rehydrate after a fever.

Best wishes.

If you think there is infection that he's still fighting a little, you could start eating lots of raw garlic, which could help him through your milk if you ate enough. Has to be raw.

You've tried cutting out tofu, dairy, and sugar for the duration?

poor little snuffle......

Thanks everyone. I will try these different suggestions over the next couple of days.

Hera - do you mean cutting those things out my diet or his? He doesn't eat any of those, but I do, and was wondering if it could be contributing.

I know this may sound weird, but cool-dry air helps with congestions and coughs: Just open the freezer door and let him inhale that cold-dry steem.

I meant you, I figured he wasn't

I might call bebe luna in on this one, but wouldn't you want to keep away from cold and cold-natured things for congestion?

Having him in the bathroom when the shower is running could help, too....maybe while spritzing a little thyme or eucalyptus oil in some water in a spray bottle......

Adding quercetin and NAC can really dry them up fast. Buy the capsuels that you can pull apart, and you can mix it with food or milk. You should see significant improvement within a 3-5 days.

I've never heard of quercetin or NAC. What are they?

Hey Oceanbaby, my son has congestion a lot too. Has had it for months. I'm thinking it's food allergies.

Quercetin is a flavonoid and NAC stands for N-Acetyl-Cystine. (excuse my spelling) You can get both at any health food store.
