3Ts,

I've been meaning to ask you - were you able to report his reaction to VAERS or file for compensation from the NVIC? Or at least file a malpractice suit against the original doctor's office for giving him the wrong dosage? I'm not a lawyer, but it sounds like you've got a great case. I know no amount of money makes up for what he's endured, but at an absolute bare minimum, they should be liable for the cost of all of the treatments your son has needed and may need going forward.

When I started college, they couldn't find my medical records, so I received all of the "required" vaccines for college entry over a two-day period. Within 48 hours, I started throwing up uncontrollably and felt like I had a severe case of the flu. They (the medical center at the college) gave me a shot to knock me out and kept me out for about 12 hours, called it the flu, and sent me on my merry way. I continued to throw up continuously for another 4 months before it settled down to throwing up several times a week. Eventually I was diagnosed with severe IBS and panic disorder. My adrenalin function was out of control.

Sixteen years later, I am fully disabled. I developed severe fibromyalgia a little over three years ago. My immune function hasn't been the same since receiving all of those vaxes at once, all of which I had already had. At the time, I just didn't know there was any risk to getting vaccinated. I suspect I had the latent risk of developing IBS and panic disorder, based on my family medical history, but the vaccines triggered it and caused it to be far more severe than the family history would have predicted. No one in my family has fibromyalgia and my doctors continued to be surprised at how severe my symptoms are, to the extent of ordering a deep muscle biopsy and other tests to check if I have something else going on in addition to the fibromyalgia (I don't -- my symptoms are just crazy severe).

Of course, I wasn't there, this is just what my SIL tells me.  But, for a long time she was still pro vax and would defend the vax decision.  I think it took a long time to come to terms with the situation.  My dn is doing alot better these days.  He's in first grade, doing well, etc.  They try introduce foods every once in a while and they've had some successes and some very scary setbacks.  But, my understanding is that he could spend his whole life on this supplemental drink.  :(

Yep, it was my cousin DPT left her severely physically and mentally disabled for life. She was expected to die before she reached puberty but managed to outlive their expectations. But she was never able to care for herself.

DH's grandmother came down with Guillane Barre after receiving the 1976 Swine Flu vaccine. She was sick for two weeks and told it was all in her head. She died at the end of the two weeks.

My son was vaccine injured.  He became apraxic, lost all language, terrible bowel issues for a month or so after, poor eye contact, also had what acted like a stroke, so for a few years walked with an odd limp and held one arm up to his chest...and fell a lot.  Stimming, head-shaking.  We had lot of therapies...for years.  He's 9 now and we're in our first year without any therapy.  He is mostly recovered - still has a few communication glitches.  It was just a devastating experience, every step with schooling and therapy was filled with anxiety.  I still have a really negative and viseral reaction when people talk about vaxes.

That is awful. I am glad he is mostly recovered. I am so sorry that happened.

My stepsister developed grand mal seizures from the DPT vax when she was about 2, like actually diagnosed and reported to the CDC. I met her at age 6 and got to learn what to do when a kid my age was in the middle of a seizure, which let me tell you, fun. She eventually outgrew the seizures around age 10, but 8 years of seizing isn't so happy.

I'm a selective and delayed vaxer though, and my daughter has had the full DTaP series.

hug2.gifsuch sad stories

My nephew at 16 months of age received his MMR and polio vaccine. A few days later he became very ill, not eating, very lathargic ...eventually unable to move his limbs. My sister rushed him to the hospital and they wasted 2 hours thinking they (his mother and father) were abusing him. Within hours of him reaching the hospital he was intubated and on full life support. Swelling in his brain caused him to have a section of his cervicals removed and they also diagnosed him with Guillain Barre Syndrome <---sp? Basically a menigitis like "infection" took over his entire body and killed the nerves in his limbs and certain organs (he only has 1 working lung). They admitted that all of this was caused by the vaccine, especially citing the polio vaccine. They also said it was due to his weakened immune system at the time of vaccination (they are claiming he had a cold).

He came home after 3+ months in the hospital with a trach and absolutely no body control or limb movement. After about 3 years of therapy he was able to walk with braces and crutches. He will be 12 this year and has not progressed past the point of walking assisted with crutches and with leg braces. He still has very limited movement with one arm and often has respiratory problems. Due to his increasing weight and unability to build muscle and nerve strength, they say this is the peak of his mobility. <---Although we keep trying for more!

That is so sad. That poor boy.

These stories are awful, but they must be told. In your case Mary Elizabeth, your nephew was most likely paralyzed by the very vaccine that was meant to prevent polio!  I know vaccine reactions are labeled as "rare", but there is still a risk nonetheless. The risk of a vaccine reaction is more frightening [to me] than the risk of the diseases they are meant to prevent.

I believe my daughter's epilepsy was caused by vaccines.  My children were in the NICU for weeks after birth and my daughter had no seizures.  I saw the first seizure the day after vaccines.  Unfortunately, I did not document properly and continued vaccinating for several years because the ped told me they were not seizures and were not vaccine related.  She also lost language for six months - but I am not sure if that was because of the vaccines directly or the seizures.  Both of my children ran high fevers and were lethargic after vaccines - once again the ped said it was fine and I stupidly listened to him.  My children were eight weeks premature and at the time the ped argued with me that they should receive their vaccinations on schedule - not based on adjusted age as I wanted.  I gave in.  I really regret not listening to my gut and as a result continued to damage my children for three years.

We've found out recently, my husband who was born in the early 60's when there were not so many vaccines, is not fully vaccinated because he had severe reactions to the vaccines requiring hospitalization.  (His parents are deceased so we do not have all the details.)  He also had severe asthma so we assume the vaccine reaction was worse because of the asthma.

If I could reverse time I would have been more educated about vaccines and our family history.  I probably would not have vaccinated at all.  But if I did, it would have been selectively and on a delayed schedule.
