DD needs a haircut- what to do?

My daughter is in desperate need of a haircut.  She has very long hair and it is starting to get to be a bit of a pain.  I don't know maybe lose like 3 or 4 inches.  Do you take your kids to salons at this age (2) or do you cut it yourself?  If you have taken them to the salons; how did you choose one?  I don't really want to be the one cutting her hair but I am not sure where to take her.  Oh and side note- did you just do trims or do you go into a salon with a style in mind?

Thanks!

I trim at home until their hair gets long enough to need a real haircut. Then I just take them to my stylist who charges $10.00 for kids hair or if I'm lazy to the walk-in place. I usually keep my kid's hair one length so it really isn't a "style" but rather how many inches do I want taken off.

I always cut DS' hair myself. To be honest, I could do a better job, but we just can't afford a salon every couple of weeks. It is just more economical for me to cut his hair.

There are great books in our library about how to cut your family's hair. Since you have a little girl, it seems like if you wanted to save the money, you could just cut a few inches off yourself and it would turn out fine.

There is also a kiddie salon in the town next to us. They sit in chairs that are actually race cars, ponies etc. and play music etc. and the kids love it and therefore sit still. If you want to spend money.

i don't do kids cut often, as infants my kids don't have any hair and then i lean towards hair styles that don't require much maintenance.  when they do, i usually take them to where ever i am going.

i have heard that disney does a special 1st haircut.  i'm hoping dd2 has enough hair by the time we go , she'll be 23m.

If you are looking for a simple trim across the bottom I would probably have a trusted friend do it. My kids cooperate better for other people in this type of situation. If you need hair cut in the front I would probably do a salon. Just ask around, people will have suggestions.

I started by trying to cut ds' hair myself but he became VERY resistant. So now I bring him to a local salon that has a chair that is a little car. It's $5, she's fast & it keeps him occupied. The first time he didn't love the haircutting part but this last time he was absolutely wonderful.

In the city close to me there are a couple of salons that are specially for children but they are ridiculously expensive & I am kind of amazed people are willing to pay those prices (I don't pay that much for MY own haircut).

The hair dresser here in town charges based on the kids age until they hit 10...so a 1yr old its 1$ a 2yr old is 2$ etc etc, as long as its just a basic trim or bangs

Maybe there's something like that where you are.  I had planned on cutting dd's hair myself but I will probably do this (though she barely has hair, so she might be 10 before she needs a hair cut) lol

I have always cut my littlest son's hair because he would never cooperate at a salon. There are some good videos on youtube that show how to cut hair at home basic cut. Saves a ton of money. But if you want a style or if her hair is very thick, might be best to do a salon.

DS just got his first haircut last month. I took him when I got mine done. He watched me have mine cut then sat on my lap and got his cut. He was surprisingly very good. I thought he'd freak out!
