Need last minute money ideas for trip!

We have been planning a trip back home for 6 months now (for lots of reasons, its important we go) and plan to drive back even though its a two day trip. We set aside 1500 of our tax return to cover expenses, but, as life would have it, our car just broke down and is now fixed and waiting to be picked up...$350 later. While we are so grateful it was repairable and only cost us a fraction of what we were expecting-but we still need to come up with a way to make up for the money. Does anyone have ideas for making some last minute cash since we leave in about 6 weeks, or ways to save money on the way. Also, any good snack ideas? I plan to pack a large cooler for the trip so we don't have to spend much money eating out and we are staying on a military base on the way there for around $40 for the night.

Thanks in advance!

Can you or DH work overtime, watch a couple kids on the weekend for daycare, sell somethings on craigslist (outgrown toys, clothes etc).

You have a coin jar you can turn in?  When we were kids, we'd take a yearly trip (even if it was a week of camping), and we'd always take the coin jar in to be counted and spent that money on the trip. It usually added up to $80-100+. Throughout the year, we all would put any change we had in it (found change from the laundry, my dad would empty his pocket every night, etc.)

Second the selling of some items on Craigslist or eBay if you have anything saleable.

Definitely take and eat out of the cooler and much as possible--remember drinks, those really add up at convenience stores or motels! Also consider that gas prices are going up, so be sure to plan some extra for that as well!

def take refillable water bottles (lots) and fill them at the base when you stay there. You then don't have to buy any drinks on the car trip unless you want to.

Will there be many expenses once you're there? I am guessing that gifts of some sort may be expected? If so, could you make them?
