resources for statistics and scientific method?

Want to do some stuff on this with my science-obsessed 7 year old.

His maths is good and I don't think he'd struggle with statistics at all. Fractions, decimals, etc all pretty good, but we'd need to start at the beginning with anything specifically stats related, iyswim.

He has a really good general knowledge of science but I'd like him to appreciate how it all comes together rather than just seeing as a series of amazing facts.

Is there anything out there already? I think this would be a fairly easy program to cobble together myself (and both dp have studied stats to degree level), but I'd also rather not reinvent the wheel. Also it really works for him to have a book or program to work through fairly systematically.

I don't much mind if its online, paper based or whatever. The only thing is we're in the UK so it needs to be something that will at least ship to us.

Any thoughts really appreciated! TIA

actually getting somewhere a bit with this, posting in case it helps anyone else

brainpop actually has good starting resources on this. It gives a good overview. Also, the resources on statistics and on scientific method are free. Watching it with ds and then doing the quiz helped me work out what areas to hone in on.

Also Miquon seems to have some resources in their books for probability. We're intermittent users of miquon-my kids seem to be better with a mastery approach than to work systematically through books with a range of topics, IYSWIM. I'll be having a look at the miquon texts and seeing how useful they are for this.

He might like the Key to... series.

You could see if your library has any kids' books or DVDs on statistics.

My daughter has been using the science program from beestar, a cool education website. So far so good. It offers online worksheets, full of real life problems, challenging stuff to help kids thinking. DD enjoys it a lot. Plus, it's quite convenient because you can do the exercises no matter where you are.treehugger.gif
