I'm new to posting but I've been reading for a long time. I am about to put the cloth away for good if we can't figure out this terrible diaper rash of my daughter's. She is 17 mon, has been in cloth (BG 3.0s) since about a month old. We had no trouble with rash while she was exclusively BF, and then as we started adding food we had some trouble with periodic outbreaks of diaper rash but always cleared up pretty fast. 3-4 months ago the rash got more and more persistent, and only cleared up when we switched to disposables and used diaper ointment liberally. Now, the rash doesn't clear up totally even with the disposables.

The rash is not yeast. It looks like a burn, and if not treated immediately develops crater-like lesions/ulcers that can be up to the size of a nickel. There have been no blisters and really no drainage unless the ulcers get really bad and weep a little. It looks horrifying and of course is painful to my poor little baby.

Here's what we've tried: started with Charlie's soap, then Bio-Pac, Country Save, and Tide Free. We had major stink issues and thought that was at least part of the problem. We're now using Rockin' Green which has cured the stink (finally!) but made no difference in the rash. We have also tried cotton prefolds thinking that the microfiber was maybe the problem, and there was no change in the rash. I've tried using diaper liners and rash cream/ointment but it's been so hard to keep the ointment off the microfiber and we've had some repelling so I'm not sure that's a great long-term solution.

The only thing I have left is could this be a food reaction? She poops 3-4 times a day and the rash is definitely worse afterward. She eats a wide variety of food including meat, dairy, and she loves fruits and vegetables. I'm considering an elimination-type diet but it is drastic and really is my last resort.

Thanks for reading so far, I'm hoping some of you wise mamas can help us keep our cloth!
