"My bottom hurts!"

I hear this every day and night by my 2 and 3 years old DD's.  They test negative for UTI's.  I have washed their vaginal areas with just warm water (no soap) and have tried emu oil (on the outside) and also Weleda diaper cream.  They say it hurts mostly on the inside.  No signs of yeast infection.  I'm stumped about what to do.  For the most part when they are involved in an activity, they don't complain.  But when nighttime comes around especially, the complaining starts.  Any ideas?

Hate to cause unnecessary worry, but is there any possibility they have been abused or have been exploring their bottoms themselves? Maybe it is something in their diet causing their urine to be especially acidic. Maybe they just figured out it is the only thing that will stal;l bedtime.

Are they taking sodium ascorbate by any chance?  My dd gets really painfully red and raw looking down there when she takes sodium ascorbate for illness.  I have read here on MDC about s.a. having this effect on others as well.

I thoroughly checked out the possibility of abuse, and I'm confident that's not what's going on here.  As far as SA, we have done quite a bit of that recently, but there really is no redness.  But that's good to keep in mind.

I re-tested both girls this morning and they both have trace amounts of leucocytes, but no nitrites or protein.  I'm not exactly sure what this means but I will keep up the d-mannose and pro-biotics to try and keep any possible infection down.  We have had recent sickness, so I wonder if the elevated leukocytes could be related to a compromised immune system...
