We recently moved abroad and just got a new apt that we will be furnishing from scratch. Anyways, I'm looking for any ideas at all to help with making the apt kid-friendly/safe/not too cluttered/enjoyable for adults too.
The basic layout is it's a small 2bedroom/2bath with a balcony (and windows and the balcony will be covered by a wire mess to make sure DD can make any attempts at flying). We've bought the absolute basics so far (a king size mattress for us and any future babies and a twin for DD, a fridge, stove, and washing machine). We'll buy the other basics either this weekend or at the beginning of next week (dishes, towels, etc). However, we want to spend some time buying our furniture with care since it could very well be with us for awhile.
Here are our current ideas. Please feel to question/criticize them and add your own!!!
-Get a TV that can be mounted on the wall somehow so DD can't access it.
-Eventually buy DD a bed that has a trundle bed for friends to spend the nice/visiting relatives/new baby
-Buy a sofa that has texture that is easy to clean
FWIW, DH and I are pretty minimalists. We've lived in SMALL spaces before so this is not new to us but this is the first time we've had to furnish an apt with kids in mind. Oh, and we have a TON of playgrounds and an indoor play space with a lot of toys in our apt complex so we can easily go downstairs if the apt gets to be too much. One last thing, we'd like to buy furniture that will grow with DD+future kids in mind (hence we bought a twin instead of a toddler bed, for instance).
ETA: We have a lot of built in storage in the apt already and we hardly have anything anyways because we got rid of the vast majority of our worldly possessions because of the move. So storage really isn't an issue.
